My Girlfriend’s Black (1992)
Sung to My Boyfriend’s Back (1963)
I performed this in Cincinnati for my parents to introduce them to my Black Jewish girlfriend, Pat Ford. I was living in Gaithersburg, Maryland; she, in Washington, DC. We met in Baltimore when she approached me after I had sung several song parodies about Orthodox Jewish life at a Jewish singles lunch.
First, My Boyfriend’s Back by The Angels:
My Boyfriend’s Back, performed by The Angels in 1963.
My Girlfriend’s Black (lyrics)
(spoken) I went to sing, and she came to hear me;
She charmed me through word and deed;
But when I crooned off-key,
She laughed until she peed.
My girlfriend’s Black and I’m a lucky bloke;
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
When-I-take her home, my momma’s gonna croak.
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
I know she loves me, she tells me in song;
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Yeah-her-hair’s kinda kinky and her—schnoz is long.
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Hey—y-y—my baby’s so good-lookin’,
Who-oo—cares beans about her cookin’?
She’d been a-lookin’ around for ages
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
’Til-her-fingers fumbled through the Orthodox pages.
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
I’m so in love, I could never leave her
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
’Cause I’ve been bitten by jungle fever.
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Hey-y-y—her bos are far and fewish;
Now-w-w—she likes her baby Jew-ish.
(chorus):
We’re two nuts in one kosher pod, can’tcha see:
(Wa-oooo)
She dee-eep-sixed her brown-eyed boys and her b’lack-eyed peas—
(Wa-oooo)
For green-eyed me!
My girlfriend’s Black like a charcoal ember;
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Her wit is keen, she’ll abbreviate your member.
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Hey-y-y-y—she’ll turn your words o’ honey
With—her twisted sense of funny.
(Instrumentals) (Wa-oooo, wa-oooo)
(Instrumentals) (Wa-oooo), wait and see.
My girlfriend’s Black but knows no coloration;
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Soon, she’ll begin her legal education.
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
She likes things hot, so d’on’t try to burn me;
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Before you blink, she’ll-be-a hotshot attorney.
(Hey la-a-a-a, hey la-a-a, his girlfriend’s Black)
Hey-y-y—her boys are far and fewish,
Now-w-w—she likes her baby Jew-ish.
(Instrumentals) (Wa-oooo, wa-oooo)
(Instrumentals) (Wa-oooo), wait and see.
My girlfriend’s Black, gonna deviate your septum,
(Instrumentals) (Wa-oooo, wa-oooo)
(Instrumentals) (Wa-oooo), wait and see.
Yeah-h-h-h, my girlfriend’s Black
Well look-out now-w-w (hey-y-y), my girlfriend’s Black
Well I can hear her rappin’ so ya better start a-tappin’ on out now
Yeah-h-h, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
My girlfriend’s Black.
(Hey-y-y, his girlfriend’s Black)
(Hey-y-y, his girlfriend’s Black)
(Hey-y-y, his girlfriend’s Black)
(Hey-y-y, his girlfriend’s Black)
(Hey-y-y, his girlfriend’s Black)
